Microsoft believes 2011 to be Kinect’s big year
Microsoft’s full-body gesture-recognition technology, Kinect, debuted on Nov. 4 with 17 launch titles. The company has gone on record saying it plans to sell 5 million units by year’s end (under a week now!), and already over 2.5 million units have been sold.
What sounds like an already positive first couple months is actually just the tip of the iceberg, Microsoft says. The company’s director of Entertainment and Xbox in the United Kingdom, Stephen McGill, says 2011 is “all about Kinect.”
“As for the future, we’ve got a brilliant line-up for 2011 but it’s ultimately all about Kinect. Kinect is going to blow people’s minds. They’re [already] buying it, but we’ve got a line-up of Kinect games that will blow people away.”
I’m not yet sold on the tech myself, but 2011 is a new year, and with it possibly will come some more hardcore titles.
