Miyamoto will technically never retire

With an apparently bright future still ahead, BAFTA award winner Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind Donkey Kong and the never-ending Mario games, will technically never stop making games. In a recent interview with GamesTM, Miyamoto said that should Nintendo ever ask him to retire, something he’s apparently come to terms with already, he will still be making games at some level.

“Well, I am one of the company workers and the company has to retire me some time. So from that perspective, yes I may have to retire from Nintendo some day. But when I look around and see how aged cartoonists continue to work on their manga and how movie directors create new movies all the time, I understand that they would never retire. And by the same token, I guess I will still be making games somehow.”

His only worry is whether or not the younger mindset of his co-workers will still feel the same enthusiasm about him.

“The only question is whether the younger people will be willing to work with me at that far point in the future,” he says.
