Ontario welcomes Ubisoft

Ubisoft is celebrating the opening of its fourth Canadian studio, this time located in Toronto, Ontario. The studio, which Ubisoft plans to create 800 new jobs with over the course of ten years, isn’t just planning on making videogames but also looking at the film industry as Ubisoft plans its footing in movies.

“[The] announcement marks a strategic move for Ubisoft as we continue to expand our internal development force,” said CEO Yves Guillemot. “We are in an excellent position to grow and after extensive analysis we are thrilled to have reached an agreement with the government of Ontario to found our new studio in Toronto.”

It’s more than just an agreement, it’s $263 million that the Ontario government will invest into the studio over those ten years, with Ubisoft adding another $500 million just for laughs (and extremely important matters that will keep the studio running, of course). The Toronto location joins the Montreal, Quebec City and Vancouver of Ubisoft studios located in Canada, with the Toronto studio planning to start operations later this year.
