In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you can use a VS Seeker to rechallenge trainers and gain EXP. It’s a device you’ll want in your bag throughout the journey. But where can you find a VS Seeker in Pokémon, how do you use it, and when should you use it while playing?
Keep up with your favorite games by checking out the latest PS4 news.
Where To Find a VS Seeker
You can find a VS Seeker in multiple locations throughout the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl map. First, though, you’ll need to follow these steps:
- Go to Eterna City
- Defeat Team Galactic
- Grab a bicycle from the Eterna City shop
- Ride south down Cycling Road
Keep following Cycling Road on Route 206 until you come to Route 207. You’ll eventually run into the assistant to Professor Rowan—Dawn or Lucas, depending on which gender you chose as your trainer at the beginning of the game. Lucas or Dawn will offer you a Dowsing Machine and VS Seeker.
You’ll need to pick between the assistant’s right or left hand to get the VS Seeker. But don’t worry about this little game. The professor’s assistant will give you the device no matter what.
How To Use a VS Seeker
With a VS Seeker in Pokémon, you can fight against trainers even if you have already defeated them in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. However, the opponent’s Pokémon will grow more powerful each time you use the device to reinitiate combat. Keep this in mind as you utilize a VS Seeker and develop a strategy for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Below, you’ll find instructions on how to use the device.
Rechallenging Previously Defeated Trainers
If you hang around high-traffic routes, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use your VS Seeker in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Open your bag, locate the “Key Items” section, and choose VS Seeker. The device will transmit a signal to every trainer on the Nintendo screen, requesting battles.
Not every trainer will want to fight you again. However, some will want to get a second chance and redeem themselves. When a trainer opts in for combat, it’ll post two exclamation marks (!!) above their character.
Recharging Your VS Seeker
Your VS Seeker doesn’t have unlimited energy. Once you present the device and signal a trainer you’re willing to re-battle, you’ll need to recharge it—whether or not a team accepts your challenge. Recharge the VS Seeker by walking 100 steps.
Traveling Through Buildings or Caves
Victory Road is a cave located in the north toward Route 223. It’s a typical cave where various characters meander and interact. High-level trainers from your previous journey often gather there as they join the Pokémon League.
It’s critical to note that you cannot use a VS Seeker on Victory Road. The device doesn’t work in caves or buildings. You must use it in open-air portions of the game.
When To Use a VS Seeker
While you can use a VS Seeker for trainer battles in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, some are better than others. Utilizing the VS Seeker isn’t just about defeating teams again. You’ll want to make the most of your device by using it for the best trainers during the game.
Trainers on Route 223
Sailor Zachariah and Swimmer Wesley are excellent trainers to challenge with a VS Seeker. You can find them in Route 223’s northernmost isle with teams to help you effectively farm EXP. Surf around Sailor Zachariah so you can signal both teams and challenge them.
Trainers on Route 222
Rich Boy Trey and Fisherman Alec are another pair of trainers you should re-battle. Follow Route 222 to the steps that’ll take you west to the beach. You’ll find each team standing nearby and can pull out your VS Seeker.
Trainers on Route 218
If you head down Route 218, you’ll come across Guitarist Tony and Fisherman Miguel standing near the Canalave City entrance. You shouldn’t have any trouble challenging and defeating both of their final Pokémon teams.
Trainers on Route 213
Are you looking for some easy EXP in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? Travel along Route 213 to the beach’s easternmost region, and you’ll run into a couple of characters: Tuber Jarred and Tuber Chelsea. Chelsea’s team won’t be a problem, but you’ll want to use a grass-type Pokémon against Jarred’s team.
Trainers on Route 228
Up north along Route 228 are two trainers you should use the VS Seeker with Black Belt Davon and Ace Trainer Ariana. Both final Pokémon teams provide plenty of points if you defeat them.
