Just one week after Nintendo unveiled the Wii U, becoming the first of the Big Three (Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony) to talk about the next generation of hardware, the rumor mill is churning out word that Microsoft will be next.
According to a recent report, Microsoft is going to unveil the Xbox 360 successor at next year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. The report didn’t offer many details on the project, but did say that it will support DirectX 11.
Also included in the rumor was word that Crytek is currently developing Timesplitters 4, the long-awaited sequel. It is reportedly running on CryEngine 3, being shown internally, and was actually shown behind closed doors at last week’s E3 2011.

Update: Crytek has put out an official statement on this rumor. In their words, it’s just not true:
“Relating to the recent rumours, Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail. Crytek are working at pushing the boundaries of what current technology can bring, including our focus on DX11 which will be released shortly as an update for Crysis 2, and we believe this work, added to our estimations of what the new hardware will provide, set up CryENGINE as a next generation engine for all consoles.”
