Second new Hitman game on the way

One Hitman game after a six-year break is not enough, Square Enix has decided.

Next to Hitman Absolution, which is being worked on for a 2012 release by series creator IO Interactive, Square’s planning an additional “premium quality game in the award-winning HITMAN franchise,” it’s announced.

The news arrives via a press blurb announcing an expansion in the publisher’s Montreal operations. The existing Eidos Montreal studio (of Deus Ex: Human Revolution fame) will be expanded while another will be opened next year, tasked with the creation of the new Hitman product. It will go by Square Enix Montreal and will create 150 jobs, with Square Enix London Studios general manager Lee Singleton heading up the operation.

To make it extra clear: “This further investment will expand the vision for the HITMAN franchise and mean that two studios will now be working on future HITMAN games: IO Interactive, a Square Enix studio based in Copenhagen, creator of the HITMAN franchise is currently developing HITMAN ABSOLUTION and now Square Enix Montréal also.”
