Sega closes Iron Man 2 studio, releases developer diary

Sega Studios San Francisco is closing, it’s been confirmed.

“SEGA of America is sad to announce the closure of SEGA Studios San Francisco,” the company said in a statement. “It is an immensely talented studio and we wish all the best to all of the staff in all their future endeavors.”

The studio, formerly known as Secret Level, is responsible for 2008’s Iron Man as well as the 3D Golden Axe remake, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, both of which were greeted by mostly negative reviews.

The release of studio’s swan song, Iron Man 2, is said not to be affected by the closure; in fact, development is reportedly already completed, which the above developer diary Sega released today should be a testament to.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game, along with the PSP, DS and High Voltage-developed Wii versions, is out early next month to coincide with the movie’s release.
