Sony Online Entertainment launches 4th annual G.I.R.L. game design scholarship

To all our female readers (do we have any female readers?), this one’s for you. Sony Online Entertainment are now accepting applications for their fourth annual Gamers In Real Life (G.I.R.L.) scholarship. The programme takes a winning student, pays up to $10,000 of their tuition fees and offers up to 10 weeks paid internship at one of SOE’s development studios.

Laura Naviaux, vice president of global sales and marketing at SOE said: “The most recent industry studies show that although a large percentage of the game playing population is female, they make up only about one in every 10 game developers. For the fourth year in a row, SOE is committed to encouraging women to pursue an exciting and rewarding career of developing fun and innovative games for everyone.”

You can sign up now via the website. To qualify, you must be taking a videogame related course, without graduating before Spring 2012.
