Stalker 2 canned; employees found new studio, MMOFPS in the works
Stalker 2 is no more. Having stumbled onto some development troubles last year, GSC Game World has now been confirmed to have shut down.
Fans of the studio will want to keep an eye on Vostok Games, however, a new studio founded by GSC employees.
The studio’s first undertaking, Survarium (working title), is a free-to-play MMOFPS with themes similar to Stalker.
Vostok explains the change on its official site: “We did not reach agreement with the rights owner regarding the use of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand, that’s why we made the decision to move forward as an independent studio with a new project. That day became our starting point for Vostok Games.
“The concept of Survarium is a next evolution step for the idea of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we’ve been working on for the last ten years. Survarium will go way further forcing mankind to fight for survival not only within the closed area of Chernobyl zone, but also far beyond,” project lead Ruslan Didenko says.
The game’s due out on the tail end of 2013. It’s PC-only.
