Torchlight II is too beefy for Xbox Live

Runic Games’ upcoming dungeon crawler Torchlight II makes use of too much memory to fit the limitations of an Xbox Live Arcade game, says the studio’s CEO Max Schaefer.

Speaking recently with Eurogamer, Schaefer said the original Torchlight very narrowly made it onto Xbox Live because of its size, and the sequel’s status is not looking too rosy.

He said the game would have to be “comprehensively redesigned” to meet the memory limitations, but did say the game might one day hit the service.

“We would have to be redoing the interface for a console release anyway, just like we did with Torchlight 1, so it would probably make sense to do something more specifically tailored to the Xbox,” Schaefer said.

He also left open the window that Torchlight II might release at retail on-disc, which would make its memory usage a non-issue.
