Virgin is re-entering the games industry; MCV believes that boss man Richard Branson himself will be on hand to make the announcement during a launch event at next month’s E3 expo.
Once a power player in the industry, Virgin built partnerships with the likes of Bethesda, Disney and Capcom, and from 1994-1998 was fighting with publishing giant EA for European dominance. Its UK market share at the time was thought to be around 16 percent.
Since 2004 though, the Virgin brand’s been focusing on online, browser-based games.
The details of what to expect from its re-emergence at E3 are foggy at best, though MCV does say the brand is expected to cater ‘an online-only service to major publishers’.
