Tomb Raider developer looking to create “a distinct multiplayer experience”

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is looking for a lead designer with multiplayer experience, a job ad shows, leading us to believe that the series may finally be taking the jump towards offering social experiences. And they’re looking for quite the experienced fellow to help shape the “distinct multiplayer experience” — 5+ years of multiplayer experience on current gen AAA titles is required.

The developer has been thinking about adding multiplayer to every Tomb Raider game since Legend, according to creative director Eric Lindstrom who said in an Underworld-related interview last year that “next time could be the one!”

The recent ad does say “exciting, new projects,” plural, however, so it may well be that this position has nothing to do with the possibly open-world Tomb Raider reboot at all, and is for another Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3-bound project altogether. Though if true, this would be the first time that a Tomb Raider game offers a multiplayer experience.
